How to Solve All Your Problems in 5 Minutes

I was having a problem yesterday, and I felt really stuck. I was panicky and anxious and very unclear about what to do. It seemed like the more I thought about it, the worse I felt. And all progress on this issue was completely stalled.

My thoughts felt truncated...like I couldn’t think all the way through the problem. It would cross my mind, and I would feel that sense of dread and panic, and then just sink lower. I wasn’t following it all the way to the “What can I do about this” stage, and it kept getting worse and worse.

I finally got pretty desperate, and sat down and faced it. I actually called my sister, and was able to talk it through with her help.

Here is the process we used to dismantle it and get a handle on what needed to be done:

1. What is the problem?

Literally spell it out. I’m feeling _______________ because _______________ and I think things would be better if ______________________________.

2. What is my role?

Did I cause this? Am I making it worse? Is it really my business?

3. Is there anything I can do about it?

Is my involvement helpful? Can I fix it? Is it within my control?

This process changes the energy of the problem from dread and fear to clarity and control. When you are constantly worrying about something, you are contributing more negative energy to the situation and literally making things worse. The more negative you feel, the worse things get, and you become trapped in an unproductive and upsetting cycle.

When you sit down and think it through, you shift from emotion to logic, and you can deliberately change your thoughts and actions to improve the situation.

In this case, the answer was that it was not within my control but there was something I could do. I was able to release the desire to control the outcome, and remember my abiding belief that everything that happens is perfect and I am always safe. I took action on the one thing I felt I could do, and I released the rest to the universe.

Literally within 5 minutes of this process, I got a phone call from someone I had been trying to contact for 4 days about this problem, and I got news that another part of the problem (something I’d been waiting on for 3 months) was completely resolved.

It has never been more clear to me that the energy I contribute to a situation literally affects the outcome--and rather immediately!!

Is there something in your life that gives you that old, habitual sense of dread or panic? Something you don’t really know how to address but makes you feel really unhappy every time it crosses your mind? I highly suggest you give it 5 minutes of your attention, and follow the 3-step process. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your feelings change, and the situation improves.

Have a beautiful day, friends.
